Sampath Rekha Review

Sampath Rekha is one of the many lottery games offered by the National Lotteries Board (NLB) in Sri Lanka. The NLB was established in 1963 through a Finance Act. Over time, the Act was amended so as to bring it into context with emerging issues.  The body in charge of the amendment is the parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprise (COPE). The vision of NLB is to be the leader in creating state investment through the contribution of communities with the main aim of developing the socio-economic infrastructure of the country. Through competent leadership, NLB has been developing new products and rebranding old ones, a move that has enhanced customer trust. There is a lot of modern technology at play in the NLB lottery games including Sampath Rekha.

Playing Sampath Rekha

This is a number draw game where players choose 4 numbers and a letter with which they participate in the draw. There are lots of prizes to be won and this has attracted a lot of players. Sampath Rekha is among the 15 games offered by NLB.

The first step in playing Sampath Rekha is to identify a dealer or an agent near you. NLB has a network of agents and authorized dealers in each of the districts. For instance, if you are in Colombo, there are about 20 authorized dealers each having a dealer code and telephone contact. Once you get to the dealer, you inform the clerk of the game you want to play and they will give you the appropriate playslip.

Manual Picking

From the playslip, you can choose your favorite 4 numbers and a letter. The playslip has several panels, each constituting a play. Depending on the number of plays you want to participate in, you can mark the panels as directed.

In case you make a mistake when marking a panel, simply get to the bottom of the panel where there is a checkbox indicating void. Check the box to void all the selections on the panel. You can then move on to the next and make your selection. If you are a new player, you may want to try out some numbers based on preference or your own analysis. On the other hand, if you are an old player, you could be having some set of numbers that you constantly play. The option is yours on the set that you want to play.

There is advance draws which means you can participate in games whose draw dates are still ahead. However, you cannot choose different numbers for each of the advance draws. You choose one set which is entered into all of them. This is especially convenient if you do not have regular access or time to play.

Quick Pick

This is the alternative to manual picking. Quick Pick simply means you authorize the computer terminal to pick the numbers for you instead of doing a manual picking. There are two ways of doing this. From the playslip, there are Quick Pick checkboxes in each panel. If you want to play Quick Pick in a specific panel, move over to the bottom of the panel and check the Quick Pick box. The second way is to tell the clerk to generate your numbers through Quick Pick right away without checking the playslip. Neither manual picking or Quick Picking gives you any winning advantage. It is all about convenience.

Sampath Rekha Ticketing

Once you hand over the playslip, you will be required to pay the equivalent amount per play. The cost per ticket is LKR 20. If you play 3 games, you will pay LKR 60. After the payment, you will be given the ticket which is the evidence that indeed you have been entered for the draw. The ticket has a number of features amongst them:

  • The NLB logo to confirm that the game is under NLB
  • The name of the game (Sampath Rekha) is imprinted on the face of the ticket.
  • The numbers chosen including the letter are also printed on the ticket
  • The date of the ticket purchase and the serial number of the ticket appear alongside each other.
  • The ticket also has the price indicated on it.

The color codes of the tickets indicate for which draw they are. There are purple, green, and blue tickets. The purple ticket is for Tuesday draws, the green is for Friday and the blue is for Sunday.

You are required as part of NLB regulations to sign the ticket at the back so as to authenticate it. Being a bearer document, the ticket can easily be transferred to another person who can take advantage and claim the prize it wins. Apart from the signing, you should also keep the ticket in a safe place so that it doesn’t fold or deface. Any problematic tickets may mean a long time of verification before you finally get your prize.
