Star Toto 6/50 Review

Star Toto 6/50 is a draw game offered by Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd. This is the body mandated with the operation of Lotto in Malaysia. It was first incorporated in 1969 by the Malaysian government and in August 1985, the company was privatized this was a huge milestone in the gaming industry. At the time of this review, Sports Toto is wholly owned by a company listed on the Bursa Malaysia market known as Berjaya Sports Toto Berhad.

By this time, the jackpot that was brought forward from Mega Toto 6/52 combined with the accumulated amounts of Grand Toto 6/63 amounted to RM 20,530,942.96 jackpot. The Grand Toto 6/63 had an interesting price structure whose minimum jackpot was RM 15 million, a second prize of RM 10,000, a third prize of RM 100, and a fourth prize of RM 10. All these were based on a bet of RM 2.

Grand Toto 6/63 was available in 3 playing methods which are standard play, system play, as well as EZ-Bet. These playing modes enhance the chances of winning. The main reason why Grand Toto 6/63 replaced Mega Toto 6/52 is that Sports Toto wanted to make the game as exciting as possible with higher chances of winning the jackpot prize.

Star Toto 6/50 Replaces Grand Toto 6/63

Through a press release on October 17, 2017, Sports Toto announced that Star Toto 6/50, a new lottery game was replacing Grand Toto 6/63 effective October 19, 2017. This was made as part of the effort by the company to enhance the gaming experience in Malaysia and push up the jackpot amounts.

Star Toto 6/50 had two jackpots: Jackpot 1 and Jackpot 2. The minimum jackpot 1 was set at RM 1,188,888 and this requires you to play by choosing 6 numbers beginning 1 to 50. The cost per play was also brought down from RM 2 to RM 1. Apart from jackpot 1, jackpot 2 was also given a minimum prize of RM 100,000. To win this, the player had to draw a bonus number considered additional. This gives you much greater chances to win a lot of other prizes.

Since Grand Toto 6/63 only had up to the 4^th prize, Star Toto 6/50 introduced 5^th, 6^th, and 7^th prizes although with different prize values. In order to enhance chances of winning, this new Star Toto 6/50 game was also made available in 3 playing modes: standard, system, and EZ-Bet.

Playing Star Toto 6/50

Star Toto 6/50 allows you to choose 6 numbers from a pool of 1 to 50.

Standard Play

There are 3 modes of playing one of which is standard play. Here, you get your play slip from the outlet near you. As mentioned above, Star Toto 6/50 has a total of 680 outlets which technically means you can get an outlet near you at any time. If you are not quite sure where the nearest outlet is, you can visit the official Sports Toto website where you enter the keyword under the Toto outlets tab and you will get a list of the Sports Toto outlets near you.

Once you get there, you will be given the Star Toto 6/50 play slip that has different play areas. In each play area, there is an array of numbers from 1 to 50. In the standard play mode, you simply choose 6 numbers and the bonus number. Following the draw, the winning numbers will be announced which you confirm against your ticket. The cost per bet is RM 1.

System Play

The second mode of play is called system play. Here, you choose from 7 to 15 numbers depending on your preferences. This will help you cover all the possible combinations. The trick here is that the more numbers you play, the higher your chances of winning. The minimum bet is RM 1.

If you bet on 7 numbers, the system registers as system 7. This is treated as 7 plays and since the cost per play is RM 1, system 7 will cost you RM 7.
System 8 is equivalent to 28 plays and it will cost you RM 28.
If you bet on system 9, you will have an equivalent of 84 plays and this will cost you RM 84.
If you bet on system 10, you will have 210 plays the equivalent of which is RM 210.
System 11 gives you a total of 462 games and it will cost you RM 462
System 12 is equivalent to 924 games and will cost RM 924.
System 13 gives you a total of 1716 games and will cost you RM 1,716.
System 14 gives you a total of 3003 games and will cost you RM 3,003.
Finally, system 15 will give you a total of 5005 games costing you a total of RM 5,005.

EZ-Bet

This is the last mode of play and the advantage with EZ-Bet is that it gives you an opportunity to win with relatively smaller bets. For Star Toto 6/50, you can bet through EZ-Bet starting from system 9 all the way to system 15. Again, the more the numbers you play, the higher the chances of winning because you get more sets of numbers. The minimum bet is RM 2.

If you bet on system 9, you get a total of 84 sets of numbers and this will cost you RM 42.
System 10 will also cost you RM 42
System 11 will similarly cost you RM 42
System 12 also costs you RM 42 to play
Systems 13 to 15 will cost you RM 143

Just like in any other lotto game, you have an opportunity to select the numbers yourself on the play slip or do so through the Luck Pick. The latter is much more preferred if you do not have any idea of the numbers you want to play or you just want a different set of winning numbers from nowhere. The Luck Pick is done through a machine at the outlet.

Star Toto 6/50 Prize Breakdown

Once you make the respective payments, you will be given a ticket which is the evidence that you are participating in Star Toto 6/50. Without this, you cannot claim any prize, which means you must keep everything safe waiting for the draw. The draw is held 3 times a week on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The price for jackpot 1 is usually 40% of the prize pool in addition to the RM 1,188,888 upfront minimum prize and any snowballed amount that has been carried forward from the previous draws. Jackpot 2 on the other hand constitutes 10% of the prize pool combined with any amount that has been snowballing from the previous draws. Usually, 55% of the total stake collection is assigned to the prize pool. In cases of more than one winner, the jackpot prize is usually divided equally among them.

For the standard play, the prize structure is as follows:

Matching the 6 numbers gives you the first jackpot which has a minimum guaranteed amount of RM 1,188,888.
The second prize constitutes matching 5 of the 6 drawn numbers together with the bonus number. The prize here is jackpot 2 which has a minimum guaranteed amount of 100,000.
Third prize comprises matching 5 out of the 6 winning numbers. Here you get RM 2,008.
The fourth prize constitutes matching 4 out of the 6 drawn numbers plus the bonus number. This gives you RM 788.
The fifth prize constitutes matching just 4 out of the 6 numbers and the prize is RM 28.
The sixth prize consists matching 3 numbers plus the bonus number. This gives you RM 18.
The last prize category requires you to match just 3 out of the 6 drawn numbers and this gives you RM 8 in prizes.

The minimum age for buying Star Toto 6/50 is 21 years and the venue for the draws is usually at the Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur. You can watch the draw live on the internet as from 7.15 p.m. on the draw day. The results will be in the dailies and you can also check on the official Sports Toto website and through SMS. As soon as the draw is concluded, you can claim your prize at the head office or Sports Toto outlet. You will be required to carry your passport and ID card. You have a window of 180 days after which the prize will be forwarded to the Ministry of Finance. The government of Malaysia doesn’t tax your earnings.
