Singapore Toto Review

Singapore Pools, the operator of 4D and Toto Lottery is the only legally approved lottery body in Singapore. It was set up on May 23, 1968, with the aim of controlling the widespread gambling that was largely unregulated in Singapore in the 1960s.

Toto is one of the popular lottery games in Singapore, according to a survey conducted in 2005 by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. The survey also revealed that the average monthly median betting on Toto was S$48. You can purchase Toto from Singapore Pools outlets across the country which are over 300 in number. Draws are done on Mondays and Thursdays at 6.30 p.m. local time. Profits from Toto go to the owner of Singapore Pools, the Singapore Totaliser Board, which then allocates the money to charity among other uses.

How to Play Singapore Toto

Ever since its launch in 1968, Toto has evolved over the years. Its name is derived from a combination of “Lotto” and “Totalisator”. In 1981, Toto introduced the snowballing feature which allows prizes to grow if no winners are found for a particular draw. In the same year, the system entry option was introduced.

Initially, Toto started as a 5 out of 49 Game, and in June 1988, it was updated to a 6 out of 42 Format. The update followed a raise of the top prize to $300,000. Another tweak to the game happened in 1997 when it was updated to a 6 out of 45 format. Again, the jackpot prize was revised to $500,000.

The Toto Lottery as we see it today went through a final revision in October 2014. Players draw 6 winning numbers and an additional number out of the array of 49 numbers. The jackpot starts at $1 million.

To play Singapore Toto, you need a minimum of $1 inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST). There are 3 ways you can place your bets in this game: outlets, phone, and online. For the last two, you will need to open an account with Singapore Pools.

Total Bet Types

There are 4 main types of total bets:

  • Ordinary Bet – Here, you only select 6 numbers and you get one entry at a cost of S$1
  • System Entry – This consists of systems 7 to 12. In system 7, you choose 7 numbers which gives you 7 ordinary entries at a minimum amount of $7. System 8 gives you 28 entries at $28. System 9 gives you 84 entries at a cost of $84. System 10 gives you 210 entries at a cost of $210. System 11 allows you to choose 11 numbers and gives you 462 ordinary entries at $462. The last system entry is system 12 where you choose 12 numbers that give you 924 entries at $924.
  • System Roll – Here, you place a bet on 5 numbers and an extra rolling number. The rolling number represents 39 numbers and is designated by “R”. The cost is $44.
  • Quick Pick – This gives the clerk permission to generate numbers for you using the computer terminal.

Placing Bets at Outlets

You can visit more than 300 outlets in Singapore and play Toto. You have the option to go for self-pick or Quick Pick. In the self-pick, you will be given a play slip where you mark your bet type. It is recommended that you use different bet slips for the different types of bets. If your bet is an ordinary entry, you don’t need to indicate it.

Thereafter, you mark the numbers you want to place your bets on. For the ordinary entry, you should mark 6 numbers. For the system roll, you are required to mark 5 numbers. For the last bet type, system entry, you can mark anything from 7 to 12 numbers depending on the bet type you choose. Each bet slip has 6 boards which mean 6 entries.

After choosing your preferred numbers, go ahead and mark the number of draws against which you want to bet. There are two options: 2 draws and 4 draws. The 2 draws enable you to place bets for 2 consecutive draws while the 4 draws give you space for 4 consecutive draws. If only play for the current draw, do not mark anything.

If you are taking part in the group lotto, ensure you mark the box against the group lotto. State the number of tickets you are purchasing at the sales counter.

Where you choose the Quick Pick option, meaning the system will choose for you, just mark the QP checkbox on the respective play panels. If you make a mistake and you want to cancel the board, mark the void checkbox and skip the board to the next. Another way of placing Quick Pick bets is simply to let know the outlet staff that you want to bet for a particular amount and bet type.

Toto SGP Ticket

After you place your bet and make the payment, the staff at the outlet will generate a ticket for you. It is your responsibility to check if the ticket accurately reflects your bet. Ensure you safeguard it so that it doesn’t deface or get lost. Remember the ticket is the only proof of your participation in Singapore Toto.

The following are the features your ticket should have:

  • Bet type
  • The bet selection method, whether Quick Pick or self-pick as well as the bet amount
  • The total bet amounts
  • The ticket number and the draw date

If you decide to buy iToto, you will just state the number of units you want to purchase right from the sales counter. You are not required to fill in a bet slip. The ticket you receive for iToto will have the number of units you are buying. Each ticket can accommodate a maximum of 4 units.

Betting via Phone

If you want to participate in Toto, but you are far away from an outlet, you can easily do so via phone. Simply call the lottery betting line which is 6212 0039 and place your bets for system entry, ordinary entry, or system roll. You can either do self-pick or Quick Pick. The betting line operates from 6.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. However, using phone betting locks you out of advance draws. You can only participate in current draws.

Betting Online

You can place self-pick or Quick Pick bets online. This is much easier, especially for players who for one reason or another cannot get to an outlet in time or simply wants the convenience of betting from the comfort of their homes. Every online bet happens on the official Singapore Lottery page. In case you want to review your bets, just select decline or else accept and confirm the bet.
