Jathika Sampatha Review

From 1960s to date, the lottery industry in Sri Lanka has enjoyed immense growth thanks to enabling legislation and active participation from the people. One of the notable pieces of legislation that introduced lottery in a major way in Sri Lanka is the Finance Act of 1963. This Act created the environment and the legal base that saw the introduction of the National Lotteries Board. This is the body mandated by the government to operate lottery games in Sri Lanka.

As the industry grew, the original Finance Act could not cope with the demands hence the need for amendments. Some sections were amended in 1997 and 1998 and still the need to continue with the amendments is still alive. Compared to the times when the Act was initially drawn, the lottery architecture has changed significantly hence the demand for legislation that is compatible with the present time.

The parliamentary body in charge of the amendment is the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE).

The National Lotteries Board runs a number of lotteries in Sri Lanka one of which is Jathika Sampatha. This is a draw game with exciting prizes that allows players to participate for the Wednesdays and Saturdays draws.

How to Play Jathika Sampatha

A quick look into the history of the game reveals that Jathika Sampatha was introduced by the National Lotteries Board in March 2010. It took the place of Suwasetha and Shrama Vasana. Its prize structure is much stronger than its predecessors thus attracting a huge following. Proceeds from this game go towards the Ministry of Health and Labor where it finances several public-oriented projects.

Just like any other game under the National Lotteries Board umbrella, Jathika Sampatha enjoys a wide network of dealers all across Sri Lanka. Thanks to this geographical presence, people can take part in this game irrespective of the district they live in.

If you want to play Jathika Sampatha, you must first locate your closest dealer. From the official National Lotteries Board website, there is the dealer’s tab that lists authorized dealers and agents in every district in Sri Lanka. The dealers are identified by name, physical address, telephone number, and a unique dealer code. This makes it easier for you to identify them so that you do not fall into the wrong hands.

Once you get to your nearest dealer, ask for the playslip that allows you to choose your lucky numbers. There are two ways of doing this; manual and Quick Pick.

Manual Selection

In manual selection, you pick your numbers right from the playslip based on what you feel are the winning numbers. The playslip has several play areas or panels, each constituting a single play. You are supposed to mark 5 numbers, a fortune number, and a letter. This will be the basis upon which you will be declared a winner of a prize.

In case you make a mistake in the selection of numbers, do not erase but rather go to the bottom of the panel and check the void box. This cancels the entire selection of the play area. There is also a checkbox for advance draws if you would want to play more games in addition to the upcoming draw. When you check the advance draw tab, you will be entered for subsequent draws on the same number combination as the current selection.

Quick Pick

Instead of the manual selection, you can decide to use the Quick Pick system. This simply means the computer terminal will choose for you your lucky numbers. There are two main ways of going about this. On the playslip, there is a checkbox that allows you to use Quick Pick for a particular panel. This is mostly preferred in a case where you want to combine manual picking and Quick Pick.

In the event you want the pure Quick Pick, you can do so by asking the clerk to directly generate your ticket via Quick Pick without giving you the playslip. None of the methods that are Quick Pick or manual picking gives you an advantage when it comes to winning prizes. Jathika Sampatha is a chance game and winning is purely based on luck.

Your Jathika Sampatha Ticket

After filling in the playslip, you hand it over to the clerk together with the equivalent amount based on the number of plays. The cost per play is 20 Sri Lanka Rupees. After making the payment, the clerk will generate the ticket for you.

The tickets have color codes. There is green for the Wednesday draw ticket and Orange for the Saturday draw. Other than this, there are several ticket features worth noting.

  • NLB Logo – Every ticket has the National Lotteries Board logo on the top right
  • Lottery Name – The name Jathika Sampatha is printed on the face of the ticket as a confirmation that indeed you are in this game.
  • Chosen Numbers – All the numbers you choose, appear on the ticket. It is important to confirm that they tally with what you have actually chosen on the playslip.
  • Serial Number – Every ticket has a unique serial number that identifies it.
  • Ticket Price – This is printed at the bottom left.
  • The Wednesday ticket has a huge rocky feature while the Saturday ticket has women plucking tea

When you get your ticket, it is advisable you sign it to prevent others from claiming your prize in case of ticket loss.
