Cheney and West families took the amount in lump sum & they got $160 million. The reason for them getting a much lower amount was that Powerball now paid the annuity over 30 years compared to 25 years, as they earlier used to do.
Earlier in 2002, a guy named Andrew. J. Whitaker from West Virginia won $314.9 million in a Powerball jackpot. He also went for the lump sum amount instead of yearly payment & he bagged an amount of $170,505,876.
Biggest Mega Millions Jackpot:
Biggest USA Mega Millions jackpot, which also incidentally is the biggest lottery jackpot till date, was won by Jim and Carolyn Ephrata on 4th January, 2011. The amount they won was a whopping $380 million. Both the winners received $190 million apiece.
On November 15, 2005, a lottery syndicate named “Lucky 7” won $315 million in a Mega Million draw. This was the largest prize won by a single ticket in Mega Millions. The group received a lump sum amount of $170.5 million.
Biggest SuperEnaLotto jackpot:
The biggest jackpot won in Italy’s Soprano Lotto to date is about $205 million and it was won in 2009 by a player in Begone.
Biggest EuroMillions jackpot:
The biggest EuroMillions Lottery jackpot till date has been a mind-boggling $260 million & it was won by Colin and Chris Weir on 14th July, 2011. They hail from Ayrshire, Scotland.
Biggest UK Lottery jackpot:
Biggest ever UK Lottery jackpot has been 42,008,610 pounds which was won by three tickets in January, 1996.
Biggest Irish Lotto jackpot:
Biggest ever jackpot of Irish Lotto on a single ticket has been 16.18 million Euro that was won by Paul and Helen Cunningham from Cork on July 28, 2007. But the overall largest ever Irish Lotto jackpot has been $29.7 million (18,963,441 Euros) which was won on June 28th, 2008 Dan Morrissey group, a 16 member lottery syndicate from Bennekerry, Carlow.
