The Florida woman convicted for killing lottery winner

Justice is served in lottery winner’s murder case

Is it safe to be a lottery winner?

It is known that many people go to great lengths to increase their chances of winning the lottery, and some are even willing to ignore morality and laws to achieve their purpose. There are even people who don’t hesitate to scam lottery winners and strip them of their newfound wealth, but very few are willing to go as far as to take one’s life. Dorice “Dee Dee” Moore crossed this terrible threshold and for her action, the judge sentenced her to mandatory life without parole.

No luck for Abraham Shakespeare

When he won millions in 2006, Abraham Shakespeare probably thought that he is the luckiest man on earth and didn’t imagine what the future would bring. He didn’t hesitate to help those he knew and even borrowed large amounts of money from people he knew little of, which explains why some owed him millions. All of these tiny misfortunes didn’t affect him too much, and when Dorice approached him saying that she is writing a book about how people take advantage of him, he was not suspicious.

His desire to help her with her work led to his downfall, but the decline was not all that sudden and Moore gradually clawed her way to the target. She became his financial adviser and one step at a time she took control of his finances, including the debt owed by him and all his properties. The $1.5 million annuity was also targeted while claiming that she’s trying to protect his wealth from a pending case. In the end, she shot him and hide his body under a concrete slab.

An easy decision for the jury

It took jurors less than three hours to reach a verdict and in the end, they found her guilty of murder and the judge was quick to sentence her to life in prison. The assistant state attorney was very effective in proving her guilt and presented a very convincing case about how the relationship between Mr. Shakespeare and Ms. Moore evolved. The prosecutors built a solid case and presented irrefutable audio evidence that helped the jury convict the murderer.

Her lack of regret and remorse was staggering and at times she even threatened jurors, but in the end, nothing made a difference. This shocking case shows how far people can go when their attempt to honestly win the lottery fail and assume that more radical alternatives can be a solution. For millions of decent players, buying a ticket and playing their lucky numbers is the right course of action and the lottery can bring that dramatic change that they are hoping for.
