Lottery Player Losses $54,285 to Mega Millions Lottery Scam

Mega Millions Lottery Scam

Winning a lottery jackpot is probably the easiest way of one becoming a millionaire fast. Scammers are also aware of this and they do anything possible to scam unsuspecting lottery players. Most of the times the victims of these scams are unaware of this until the last stages of the scam. However, there is an incident where a lottery player lost a staggering $54,285 while fully aware that she was dealing with lottery scammers.

It all began when a retired nurse Wilhelmina Schuste, 89, received a letter that she was the lucky winner of a lottery sweepstake by the “Mega Millions Ltd”. The letter further informed the Delton resident that she has won a sum of five million dollars. Her husband fell for the scam, but Wilhelmina was 100% sure that the letter was a scam. To prove that she was right, she started on a mission to ‘expose’ the whole gang.

She called the number on the scam letter and this led to a series of call detailing how she will receive her ‘winnings’. In an attempt to single handedly bring the scammers to book, she sent money through western union, PayPal Money cards and Money gram. The amount of the money sent totaled to $54,285. She still has the receipts to the payment.

When she saw that there was no progress in catching the scammers, she let the scammers know that she was aware of the scam. With that, the calls from the scammers ceased. According to the California lottery, their investigators identify an average of 10 lottery scams every week.

A large percentage of the lottery scams originate from Jamaica and Nigeria. Calif lottery further warns that it is impossible to win from a lottery you never played. Whenever lottery players get such a letter or email they should forward it to the relevant authorities.
