As much as lottery scams are on the increase, lottery officials are also increasing their level of vigilance. They are constantly on the lookout for new scams in order to warm lottery players and the unsuspecting public who might fall victim to these scams.

While playing online lottery you will notice that most of the websites will take you through an identification procedure of some sort. This is to your benefit, because should you win the lottery then they will use the same information you gave during registration to verify your identity before paying you your prize.  This means no other person can impersonate you and claim your well deserved and earned lottery win.

Lottery scammers are always on the look out to make sure that their scams look as legitimate as possible. They will try to copy as much as possible the logos of the companies they claim to represent in order to make themselves look valid.

The emails they now send out are also of a higher standard than before where the English would be grammatically wrong. That is why people playing online lottery are being warned to be more vigilant as it is not easy to spot a scam anymore.

Now the scams are targeting both the young and old alike. In the past older people were more prone to lottery scams are they seemed to be more gullible. However with the economy what it is, scammers know that everyone is looking to make some fast cash and get some financial independence.

You will most probably get an email informing you that you have been randomly selected from a large pool of people to be the winner of a certain lottery. The information usually gives details of the lottery and exact amounts of money involved. They will then tell you that in order for you to claim your prize you need to write back to them so that they can start the  processing your prize money.

Once you write back then they will ask you for your back details and other personal information to verify your identity. Be very careful not to give any of your personal information as they use this to gain access to your bank account and can then manipulate your funds.

They will also use this information to use your credit card online etc. It is important to always pay attention to the email address used to get in touch with you. Most scammers will use an email address  such as yahoo and hotmail.

It is always best to check if any communication regarding a lottery win is legitimate. You can do this by contacting your national lottery via email or calling one of the hotlines. Online lottery services give you all the information you need at the touch of a button.
