OtosLotto Review

Soon after the end of World War II things started to settle down. The lottery in Hungary settled as well and it started to operate again. Until 1957 the offer was not appealing enough to keep them asking for more. However, a major turnaround happened with the introduction of the OtosLotto. It was so attractive that it managed to persist for more than 50 years. It went through some changes that made it more appealing. Before Szerencsejáték Zrt. was formed OtosLotto and all other lottery games were organized by the National Savings Bank of Hungary. Today it’s still considered as the most popular game with the majority of lottery players taking part in this particular lottery. OtosLotto is also known as ‘Lotto 5’ because of the game’s rules.

The Oldest Still Existing Lottery on the Grounds of Hungary

OtosLotto has clearly defined set of rules that make it understandable to novice lottery players. Players are required to select 5 numbers between 1 and 90. The big prizes make up for the rather big number range. The Otoslotto’s jackpot has a guaranteed value of 60,000,000 Ft which once converted to USD rounds up to $220,000. If not claimed the jackpot rolls over along with prizes from other tiers, including tier 2, 3 and 4. The rollover of secondary prizes cannot be found elsewhere which makes the Otoslotto one of a kind lottery. The jackpot can roll over and accumulate its value up to a period of 1 year. After that the jackpot rolls down increasing the secondary prizes.

The Joker - A Recently Made Addition to the OtosLotto

If we consider how long the OtosLotto is present on the market, we can say that the 1993 change is a recent one indeed. In November of 1993 the Joker features were introduced to the OtosLotto giving players additional chances of winning a prize. The Joker draw takes place right after the main lotto draw. It consists of 6 figures all within the number range of 0 to 9. Winning tickets include those who match 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 of the drawn numbers.

OtosLotto - Prices, Schedule and Odds of Winning a Prize

One ticket costs as little as 225 Ft., whereas the participation in the Joker draw will cost you additional 200 Ft. If we convert these prices to USD you’d be surprised how low the prices are. The ticket actually costs $0.80 and the Joker costs $0.72. You can buy tickets for up to 5 weeks in advance and it will cost you less than $10. Considering the price and prizes we can easily come to a conclusion that Otoslotto is one of the most rewarding lotteries available. With only 2 matching numbers you are entitled to a prize. The overall chances of winning some of the prizes are 1 in 43.

The draws take place once a week on Saturdays between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM. We recommend you to buy your tickets several hours ahead of the draw if you want to be sure your ticket will be processed and be valid for the upcoming draw. Late entries will qualify for next week’s draw.

Can Foreign Players Participate in the OtosLotto Draw?

Before the internet became a thing only residents of Hungary were able to take part in the Otoslotto because tickets were only available at retail outlets. Nowadays it’s very easy to buy tickets online and to check the draw results. Foreign lottery players are treated the same way as Hungarians and residents of other EU countries. If you win a prize you should claim it in a 90 day period. Otherwise, your prize will be used to improve the social welfare or they can be donated to other benevolent funds from which the people of Hungary can benefit.
