25 years of Florida Lottery

Florida Lottery

Our congratulations to Florida Lottery!

Florida Lottery came a long way since it was created back in 1988, and in early 2013 it celebrates 25 years of existence. For a quarter of a century, the lottery has been a major funding source for schools in the state, and the profits were generally on an uptrend. Now that they are celebrating, lottery officials are just as focused on how to increase their revenue in the upcoming year, to keep meeting high expectations.

A new face for Florida lottery

It all begins with a rebranding effort that includes the changing of Florida Lottery logo, and which is aimed at keeping the games fresh and innovative. Over the course of 25 years, the lottery has generated almost $25 billion for education, and recent years were particularly profitable. 600,000 students have received money to fund their tuition and research expenses through the immensely popular Bright Futures program launched in 1997. Hundreds of schools scattered all over the state are also receiving a substantial amount every year and millions are invested in grant programs.

Many players who keep purchasing tickets for Florida Lottery are veterans who have been playing since the lottery was created, so this is a reason to celebrate for them as well. Lottery officials are trying to retain as many of these players as possible, while making their games attractive to prospective players. The forecast is positive and if the numbers prove correct, the Florida Lottery will sell tickets worth almost $5 billion in 2013, although things are less optimistic in the long run.

Florida lottery sales expected to stay flat

It is hard to expand your customer base by only selling tickets locally, and the specialists say that Florida lottery is close to reaching its climax. Sales are expected to stay flat for the upcoming years, with an insignificant increase of roughly 1% per year, which are not enough to keep up with the rising expectations. While the lottery will still remain an important source for funding education projects, the amounts donated will remain very close to existing levels, while educational costs continue to rise.

Traditionally resistant to change Florida Lottery officials were compelled to make some amendments, and the first decision was to join the multistate Powerball game. Players are known to be attracted by huge jackpots and last year served as an excellent example for those who wondered which might be the effect of a record jackpot. Florida lottery has also released a couple of original  games such as “Florida Treasure Hunt”, and it is expected to launch new and innovative games in the foreseeable future.
